Preparing Your Garden
Preparing Your Garden
Join us in the Garden as our new Garden Manager, Jess shares best practices on how to prepare garden plots, whether at Summit Community Garden or at your home. We’ll learn about soil amendments like compost and other organic materials that can enhance soil fertility. Jess will show us some broadfork techniques to loosen soil and prepare it for planting, which is especially important for our rocky soil. She’ll discuss which crops can be directly sown into the ground, which crops should be started indoors and then transplanted, and which ones to wait on. She’ll also cover best watering techniques for our dry climate, best companion planting, and spacing for various crops.
*Handouts will be provided.
