Food Farmacy
Summit Community Garden and EATS, in partnership with The People’s Health Clinic (PHC) and the Christian Center of Park City (CCPC), launched the Food Farmacy program during the 2023 growing season. The program is intended to increase access to fresh produce to those experiencing chronic diseases like hypertension, diabetes, or heart disease, along with food insecurity. The partners believe food is medicine and that fresh produce can have a huge impact on overall health. Here is how the partnership works: PHC identifies patients that would benefit medically from eating more fruits and vegetables and they are offered prescriptions for produce. The Community Garden provides fresh, organic produce, which is grown by our staff and volunteers from June to October. In the off-season, Summit Community Gardens + EATS purchases high-quality produce so patients receive food all year long. Bags of produce are delivered to patients by CCPC volunteers every other week.
Typically, SCG + EATS grows 2,000 pounds of food.
