Our First Intern!
Summit Community Gardens has our first intern!
I would like to introduce and welcome Claire Hilton to the team.
Claire is a senior in the Environmental Studies program with a minor in Political Science at the University of Utah. She recently returned from a six-month trip to Ecuador working for the Third Millenium Alliance, a nonprofit organization focused on ideas of conservation and permaculture. During that time she learned many aspects of gardening and permaculture. Claire was also able to spend time with kids in the community. She coordinated a field trip for the children, and taught kids about the variety of systems that allows the reserve to run such as the water system, dry compost toilets, food compost, vermiculture, gardens, nursery, and orchard. Claire has volunteered with Wasatch Community Gardens, Mountain View Elementary Garden, and Campus Gardens at the University of Utah.
Claire will be focused on the development of our Youth Programs. With all the funding available for youth focused programs, this will be a great way to get some fun youth focused classes and activities in the garden for the summer as well as provide a foundation for fundraising.
I am so excited to have Claire on board and can't wait to see what amazing things unfold.
