Summit Community Gardens is administered by a volunteer Steering Committee that represents a cross-section of stakeholders having an interest in bringing community gardens to neighborhoods of the Wasatch Back, particularly Summit and Wasatch Counties.  Inspiration was taken from Wasatch Community Gardens which has a 20 year head-start along the Wasatch Front making use of vacant land situated throughout the Salt Lake Valley.

The Steering Committee enjoys representation from Park City Municipal Corporation, Summit County, Basin Recreation and Parks Dept., and Uinta Headwaters Council.  In addition, through the Summitt Community Gardens Advisory Council, a number of volunteers provide support for occasional needs falling within their specialized areas of expertise.  Like its sister project, Summit County Beef Coalition, see www.SummitCountyBeef.org Summit Community Gardens is administered by and funded through the Uinta Headwaters Resource Conservation and Development Council,, an IRC Sec. 501(c)3 qualified charitable organization.  The Council is part of the nationwide Resource Conservation and Development Program, which offers technical and financial assistance from USDA for conservation and water management projects and expansion of economic, cultural, and recreational opportunities.  The Council considers community gardens to be within its mission and finances the activities of Summit Community Gardens through private donations and third-party grants obtained by the Steering Committee.  No federal funds are allocated to the Garden projects.
